Welcome to the Almhotel Bergerhof – where tradition meets the spirit of the times in the Sarntal

Genuine. Alpine. Warm-hearted. Over the past half-century, the Almhotel Bergerhof has grown from a traditional mountain inn into a modern 3-star walking hotel, without ever losing its roots. In the very heart of the Sarntal, we offer a retreat that blends alpine cosiness with contemporary comfort and a deeply personal touch.

The Bergerhof inn in earlier days

The story of today's Almhotel Bergerhof in the Sarntal is closely tied to the hard work and vision of the Kofler family. It all began in the early 1970s, when Anna and Georg Kofler laid the foundations of a warm hospitality culture with what was then the Bergerhof inn. In those days the house was a typical South Tyrolean mountain inn, defined by a simple yet honest hospitality that drew hikers and locals alike.

In the mid-1980s, the next generation followed in their parents' footsteps as daughter Rosa took over the business. For many years she preserved the family heritage while setting the course for the future. Until the turn of the millennium, the Bergerhof, with around 15 rooms, remained a fairly tranquil retreat – but rising guest expectations led to a decisive turning point in the early 2000s. Through a major renovation and a comprehensive extension, the house grew to 24 rooms, bringing modern comfort and alpine style into harmony.

After more than three decades of devoted management, Rosa decided to lease the Bergerhof. Since then, the house has continued under new management as the Almhotel Bergerhof.

The Almhotel Bergerhof today

In recent years, the Bergerhof in the Sarntal has evolved profoundly. The original mountain inn has become a modern 3-star walking hotel with 24 rooms, combining alpine cosiness with contemporary comfort. This transformation is felt throughout the house – from the architecture to the digital service.

A deliberate focus lies on the connection to nature. Outside, a whirlpool invites you to relax in the open air with a view of the Reinswald mountains. The sauna area and the bright new relaxation room reinforce this concept through clean lines and natural materials.

The kitchen, too, has been modernised: a blend of South Tyrolean tradition and Mediterranean influences, paired with an unwavering commitment to high-quality ingredients. The atmosphere of the house has likewise been refreshed – the décor is understated and contemporary, without losing touch with our roots.

This openness is mirrored in our guests as well. Thanks to our new website and our presence on social media, the Bergerhof has become more international than ever. We're delighted to welcome guests from all over the world who seek the calm of the mountains while valuing modern standards and good connectivity. Today, the Bergerhof is exactly that: an authentic retreat that has arrived in the 21st century.

A host by passion

Since 2021, the Almhotel Bergerhof in the idyllic Sarntal has been run by Klaus Unterweger – a host by passion and, at the same time, the head chef of the house. With great dedication he carries on the long tradition of the Kofler family, which shaped the hotel over many years.

Klaus is not only the creative mind in the kitchen but also the person to turn to for anything you need – always there when you need him. With his warm-hearted manner, he makes sure guests feel completely at home from the very first moment. Whether at the generous breakfast buffet, which surprises with regional delicacies, or over a relaxed dinner – for him, enjoyment always comes first.

The atmosphere at the Bergerhof is laid-back, family-run and authentic. An open ear, a friendly smile and a little chat along the way are simply part of it here. Whether you need hiking tips, have a special culinary wish or just want to switch off, Klaus and his team are there for you and look forward to giving you an unforgettable time amid the Sarntal mountains.
