Winter holidays in the Sarntal Valley: skiing, tobogganing and tranquillity in Reinswald

The personally managed Almhotel Bergerhof enjoys a peaceful location on a sunny mountainside at an altitude of around 1,250 metres, making it an ideal base for a varied winter holiday in the Sarntal. The Reinswald ski area, with its slopes, winter hiking trails and natural toboggan run, is only around three kilometres from the hotel.

International World Cup skiers regularly train in Reinswald, and some of them also stay with us at the Bergerhof – something we are particularly proud of. With a little luck, you may even meet one of the athletes in person and perhaps get an autograph.

Our owner and head chef Klaus has also been closely connected with international ski racing for many years. During overseas training camps and World Cup races, he works as a chef for the Italian men’s speed team, accompanying athletes such as Dominik Paris, Christof Innerhofer, Florian Schieder and Giovanni Franzoni. He then brings his experiences from the World Cup circuit back home to the Bergerhof kitchen.

The Sarntal is also easy to explore without a car: the nearest bus stop is approximately 100 metres from the hotel, and the South Tyrol Guest Pass included with your stay allows you to use public transport throughout South Tyrol free of charge. Your equipment can be stored safely in our ski storage room with ski-boot dryers.

After an exciting day in the snow, you can unwind in our saunas or heated outdoor whirlpool. In the evening, you can look forward to regional dishes and homemade cuisine, together with the personal hospitality that makes the Bergerhof so special.

The small yet charming Reinswald ski area offers 22 kilometres of varied slopes, modern lifts and a pleasantly relaxed atmosphere. Beginners, families and experienced winter sports enthusiasts will all find suitable runs with beautiful views of the Sarntal Alps.

A ski school and ski rental service are located directly at the ski area. After a day on the slopes, you can conveniently store your equipment in our ski room with heated ski boot racks, ensuring that your boots are warm and dry the following morning.

The 4.5-kilometre Reinswalder natural toboggan run leads from Pichlberg through the snow-covered landscape down to the gondola valley station. The varied route offers winter fun for families, couples and everyone who enjoys travelling downhill on two runners.

Toboggans can be rented directly from the ski rental shop at the valley station. Before setting off, we recommend checking the current operating and snow conditions.

Winter hiking allows you to discover the peaceful side of the Sarntal Valley. Prepared trails lead through snow-covered forests, across sunny slopes and to viewpoints overlooking the surrounding mountains.

Popular options include the winter walk around Lake Durnholz and the trail from Pichlberg to the Getrumalm mountain hut. We will be happy to provide information at reception about which trails and huts are currently open.

The mountains around Reinswald, Durnholz and the Penser Valley offer a variety of routes for experienced ski tourers. Popular destinations can be found around the Sattele mountain pass and in the area surrounding the Getrumalm mountain hut.

Ski tours lead through Alpine and partly unsecured terrain. Complete safety equipment, Alpine experience and careful consideration of the current avalanche report are therefore essential. When necessary, we recommend being accompanied by a certified mountain or ski guide.

Around 20 kilometres of prepared cross-country skiing trails await you in the snow-covered Penser Valley. The routes lead through the peaceful winter landscape of the upper Sarntal Valley and are suitable for both leisurely outings and more athletic sessions.

As the opening of the trails depends on snow conditions, we recommend checking the current cross-country skiing report before setting off.

During the winter months, the ice rink at the Labnes sports area in Sarnthein offers ice skating for children and adults. Depending on the programme, curling, ice hockey and other activities may also take place there.

During the Advent weekends, the village centre of Sarnthein is transformed into a small and atmospheric Christmas market. Regional specialities, traditional Sarntal handicrafts, music and a varied programme create a peaceful festive atmosphere.

A visit to the Alpine Advent can easily be combined with a winter walk through Sarnthein or an excursion to Bolzano.

Snowshoes allow you to experience the snow-covered landscape away from the busier paths. Step by step, you can explore quiet forests and white mountain slopes, accompanied only by the fresh winter air and the sound of snow beneath your feet.

Guided snowshoe hikes are also available in the Sarntal Valley. When venturing into open terrain, current snow and avalanche conditions as well as your own experience must always be taken into account.

After a day on the slopes or in the snow-covered mountains, soothing warmth awaits you in our small yet inviting wellness area. Relax in the Finnish sauna, steam bath or infrared cabin before enjoying the crisp winter air from our heated outdoor whirlpool.

Our newly designed relaxation room and tea and snack corner offer additional space to unwind. Bathrobes and sauna towels can be borrowed free of charge from reception.

The South Tyrol Guest Pass is included throughout your stay and allows you to use public transport free of charge in accordance with the current conditions. The nearest bus stop is located approximately 100 metres from the hotel.
